Privacy Policy

We designed PDF Chat with your privacy in mind. This page explains what data the extension processes and how it is used.

Overview

PDF Chat is a Chrome extension that lets you upload PDF files, extract text, and have an intelligent conversation about the document’s content. Text extraction is performed locally in your browser using the PDF.js library. Data is only sent to the AI service when you explicitly initiate a chat or ask a question.

Data We Process

  • Text from the PDF files you upload, required to answer your question.
  • Your chat messages and contextual snippets from the document to generate a response.
  • Local extension preferences (e.g., theme and interface settings).

What We Do Not Collect

  • Passwords or account credentials.
  • Form inputs, payment information, or other personal identifiers.
  • Background tracking or your browsing history.

How Your Data Is Used

When you ask a question, the extension locally extracts relevant text from the PDF, composes a request, and sends it to the AI service at https://text.pollinations.ai/openai to generate a response. The data is used solely to produce the requested answer and is not used by the extension for advertising or profiling.

The extension does not store extracted PDF content on our servers. Interface settings and preferences are stored locally/synchronously in Chrome Storage and can be cleared by you at any time.

Sharing and Retention

  • Data is shared only with the AI endpoint at https://text.pollinations.ai/openai when you request an answer.
  • The extension does not retain PDF content after a response is produced.
  • Local settings are stored in Chrome Storage and can be cleared at any time.

Security

  • Network communication with the AI service uses HTTPS.
  • No third‑party trackers or analytics are embedded in the extension.
  • Data processing occurs only in response to your explicit action.

Your Choices

  • You can disable or remove the extension at any time.
  • You can clear extension data via Chrome’s site data settings or by using “Clear browsing data”.
  • You can choose not to initiate a chat for documents you prefer not to process.

Third‑Party Services

Responses are generated by the service at https://text.pollinations.ai/openai. Please refer to that service’s own privacy policy for its data practices. PDF Chat does not control third‑party retention once data is transmitted for response generation.

Children’s Privacy

The extension is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly process personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated “Last updated” date.
